"It couldn't be more obvious that the massive state deficits which appear to have been caused by decades of ridiculously low taxes on the wealthy and irresponsible tax incentives to businesses were ACTUALLY caused by $50,000 per year schoolteachers and their ridiculous $20,000 per year pensions!!"

she lied, workers are not against all health care and benefit changes.
The real discussion should be about the fact that the current status between states and unions is based on Contract Law which locks in a previously negotiated agreement. Are Repugs now against enforcing contracts? Further, the discussion seems to imply that the entire budget has been scrubbed for excess spending, all other cuts have been accomplished and that everything remaining has a higher priority than honoring the States contracts with the workers.
Last, the negotiated total compensation package is the agreed 'fair market value for services' immediately provided and includes current payments and future payments (benefits).
The State selfishly demanded that they defer some of the payment for current services received and now are blaming greedy workers.

Rethugs take heed, Howard conservation gov in Australia tried exactly same thing to destroy unions and remove collective bargaining rights by brining in legislation called Workchoices. People rose against it, not only removed the Howard gov (close Bush friend) but Prime Minister Howard lost his own seat in the subsequent election - first ever PM to do that.

Check out the "Your Rights At Work" campaigns run by the Australian union movement. Check ACTU and various affiliates. The campaign has not ceased as the Abbott led Opposition is still ideologically wedded to their Orwellian "Workchoices" legislation.

The Union campaign was a doozy.

Anyone catch Nikki Haley lying about the unions stance on healthcare and pension cuts? The unions have been saying for two weeks that they would agree to contribute more to healthcare premiums and pensions, but she just said that they've been fighting against that.

      Nikki Haley, YOU LIE!

Didn't see this before I posted above. She lies and they don't call her on it.

And it hasn't been said enough that this governor created the budget shortfall by instituting tax breaks. Before that their budget was balanced.

        Why isn't this being reported?!

Because the media is just too darned liberal, I guess.

I can't figure out why that prank phone call isn't all over the main stream media. That's the smoking gun!!!

Who hasn't covered it? Seemed all over the place to me. The one thing the media really has ignored is the Lila Rose hoax videos. Even Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow have made a point of NOT bringing that up when reporting on the House voting to strip PP of federal funds. Correct me if I'm wrong but the crank call was everywhere I thought.

Yes, it was reported, but only for one news cycle. It should be brought up every time Walker is mentioned. I guess I should have specified that the power plant stuff and the consideration to send in agitators to the protests should be mentioned more.

I do agree with you on the hoax videos. Kurtz the putz was on CNN this morning comparing the hoax videos to the prank phone call. What a false equivalency!!!

True..that Walker admitted considering disrupting the protests with his goons should be plastered everywhere. He's a fraud and people need to realize that.

I'm more perplexed over especially Matthews and Maddow completely ignoring that PP called the police on the LiveAction d-bags. Why would they just ignore that those videos are nothing but a hoax, especially after the House voted to strip PP of their funding? Matthews let a pro-lifer bring up those videos at least 5 times and never said a word, and Maddow does something on abortion rights almost every night and never brought it up. The hoax videos are even being brought up on the House floor, yet no one says a word. It's very disappointing.

But that's the historic response of U.S. employers isn't it?

The British had them transported to Van Diemen's Land and the U.S. employers sent in armed thugs - often in uniform. Ah, good old traditional conservative values!

True, but also remember..throughout history they've always wound up using the big ones. The slaves were freed, women were given the right to vote, legalized segregation was ended, gays are allowed to serve openly in the military..

Always, always on the wrong side of history, but there's still plenty of misguided fools willing to suit up for them. Hopefully, like the police who've joined the protestors against Walker, more people will see the light and come play on the winning team.

Always, always on the wrong side of history...
I was hoping someone would make that point.

The march of human history is always tied to the notion of the community acting to protect the welfare of the individual. Without he support of the community the individual is powerless. Without the individual the community will stagnate. When the relationship between these two entities gets out of whack injustice results.

Well put. A lot of conservatives try to argue that they're on the right side of history because Lincoln and MLK were republicans. That just shows how ignorant they are about history..republicans used to be the liberals and everything got flipped upside down during the civil rights movement and the republicans use of the "southern strategy," designed to appeal to white voters in the south..I'm sure you knew that but try explaining it to a conservative. They have to rewrite history to deny how detrimental conservatives have been to this country, which I believe is a desecration.

"There Is No Correlation" Between Collective Bargaining Rights And State Deficits
This absolutely true! Then Nikki Staley proceeds to lie about the Wisconsin public sector workers saying they have NOT offered any concessions in pay and benefits cuts. The right lies over and over. This is union busting, Governor Scott Walker has said this in so many words.

This whole thing that Walker started was bought and paid for by the Koch brothers with Walker's benefit being that the right wing media will push for "a guy like him" to run for President. He's doing this for power and money, he doesn't give a rat's ass about Wisconsin or the people or budget, this is his stepping stone, just as Palin's run for Vice President was hers. Next up? Walker's book deal.

I made the mistake of moving to Georgia and becoming a cop years ago. Georgia is a "right to work" state that still believes that the Civil War never ended. After 7 years, I was earning $40,000 annually with no overtime allowed. Then one day there was a letter in my work mailbox. They took away our annual uniform allowance ($75), and our dental and vision benefits to save money. When an Officer mentioned that our county was sitting on a $300 million surplus, he was transferred to the worst precinct in the department. I moved back to New York after I scored a 93 on a promotional exam, but they promoted a guy who scored a 70 instead. The Chief said that promotions were made at his sole discretion, and if I, or anyone else, didn't like it, we were free to go find a different job. THIS is the "free market" system. THIS is what happens when you have no collective bargaining or unions. Employers seek out the most uneducated and unskilled "labor" they can find who are least likely to complain. That's why about 20% of the department left the same year as me and moved back up north. I'll take unions any day.

I am always amazed at how many Americans will vote against their own interests and support those that are aligned against them. In the south back in the day when unions were first organizing there, the bosses would convince the white worker that the blacks were out to get their jobs and the unions were run by New York City Jews. This play on racism almost always worked to put a wedge between the white and black workers. The white workers were more likely to align with the white bosses against the black workers, even though the white bosses and white workers’ interests were opposed to each other’s. The white workers had more in common with the black workers, economically speaking, but this did not matter. It is true of the average worker in this country watching faux, voting repubtard, etc. They are often too stupid to realize they are being duped.

I do see a correlation between collective bargaining and costs. It garantees pay raises for time spent, regardless of performance. It garantees a minimum highering wages, etc... These are not bad things, but they do cost money. Though the savings would not help the deficit in any meaning full way.

HOWEVER, that is not really what they want to control. They, the GOP, want to break the unions fiscal power on elections. And that is not justifiable.

I think the response should be to abolish lobbying on ALL sides and levels. I think we should limit the amount of money spent on elections and add campaigns. No corporate spending, no union spending, no NRA lobbying for guns on university campuses (sigh). We have allowed special interests groups to write legislation that is not effective, but allows them to benefit.

We are not a democratic republic, we are now a oligarchal plutocrary. The wealth is concentrated in the hands of the very few, and that wealth is power.
